World Cup entries

By the entry deadline, 30th April, 127 runners had entered for World Cup rounds 4 and 5, being arranged as part of the O-Festival in Oslo. 53 women and 74 men have entered. We are pleased to see that we will have participants and guests from all over the world, including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Somalia, in addition to many European countries.

In total, 22 nations will be represented. It is particularly interesting to see Somalia amongst the entries – a completely new nation as far as orienteering is concerned. On the other hand, we lack entries from Russia and the Czech Republic, usually strong orienteering nations. For a detailed list of entries, click “Les mer” (=”Read more”) below.

The final deadline to enter names of runners is 10th June. For more information about the World Cup, read bulletin 3 under menu item: World Cup.

3 days - 300 controls

One of the biggest jobs associated with an event like the O-Festival is planning the courses. As in 2006, when the O-Festival was arranged at Gardermoen, Bækkelagets SK is the club responsible for making sure that the controls all end up in the right places.

- We are way ahead compared to last year. Then almost all the work was done in May and June - There was snow on the ground till the end of May and the work was really hectic. Now the courses are pretty well in place and there’s still over four months left, says the course boss Jørn Sundby, who has responsibility for planning the courses for all three competitions.

Kind of winter in Oslo, and 5 months left

With 5 months left till the O-festival, the competition terrain is now at least partially covered in snow. Some of us could have hoped for even more of the white powder, to make better skiing conditions.

A few glimpses of what the terrain looks like without the snow can be found here.
