Two gold medals to Norway in the World Cup
Three weeks before the World Championships Hausken and Nordberg have claimed the ”Super Couple” title. Both had clear wins in Friday’s middle distance at Siggerud.
In the European Championships at the end of May, Anne Margrete Hausken won two gold medals, whilst her partner Anders Nordberg left the competitions disappointed. In Friday’s middle distance the couple were once again both at the top of the podium, each with their victory.
-It was miserable at the European Championships. Of course, it was fun when Anne-Margrete did well, but at the same time it’s not so much fun when you are diappointed over yourself, says Nordberg. He’s had the last week “free”, and done all his training from his front door at home at Sognsvann, Oslo.
In shape for the World Championships
Are you ready for WOC now?
-I need a good race first.
-Didn’t you manage that today then?
-Well, yes I did, smiles the Halden-runner modestly. The race went well technically, but like many other runners he felt that it was tough going. Of course, that’s due to the terrain and the knee-high bilberry bushes, the effects of which surprised both Anders Nordberg and the course planner. The winner’s times for both men and women were about three minutes more than predicted.
Nordberg was also counting the minutes as he waited for the Frenchman Thierry Gueorgiou, the Finn Pasi Ikonen and the Swede Emil Wingstedt to arrive at the finish. The three world masters were chasing Nordberg’s times throughout the whole course. The Swede was also in front of the Norwegian at the next to last radio control. Finally, Nordberg could raise his hands in the air in victory and then go to the doping control.
Possible World Championship debut for 33 year old
As number two and three of the Norwegians came Carl Waaler Kaas running for NTNUI and Hans Trøan running for Nydalen. For Trøan this might mean he is on route for a WOC debut aged 33 years.
