After a good night’s sleep, we awake to an EMPTY mail box for the first time in many months! The organisers can breathe a sigh of relief after some hectic days, and the participants looked happy as they left Siggerud yesterday after three good days.
I would like to thank 300 good assistents for all their enthusiastic team-work, and I thank the participants who made this such an excellent sporting and social event. We are summing up our experiences and will take note of things that can be improved, and wish everybody a warm welcome back to the O-Festival next year - at Fossum, last weekend of June, 2009.

Around 70 teams of 3-5 runners competed in the team competition for orienteers between 8 and 12 years old. Some of the challenges along the way included bush-orienteering, downhill and a control where flour and water were poured over the runners.
After Saturday’s Normal Distance, the winners of W16 and M16 were each presented with a “Veivalg Trophy”, a prize from Sportmedia.
The Norwegian Orienteering Federation award three silver trophies each year. In winning Friday’s W16 race Raumar-runner Oda Wennemo secured one of these.
-I made some mistakes at the first and third controls. Then I made my mind up to sharpen my wits, says the Raumar runner. Saturday’s race didn’t go so well, but she hopes she is on track for the season’s most important competition. That’s the National Youth Competition that is to be held in Sandefjord at the start of August.
- The two previous years I have been number four and number six, so the aim is to be among the top five, says Oda.
At the third control, the Finn Tero Föhr and the Swede Emil Wingstedt took the best route choice. When the Swede fell, Föhr made the most of the opportunity to leave him behind and secure his first World Cup victory.
Minna Kauppi had absolutely the best time on Saturday’s long distance course. The Finn beat yesterday’s winner, Anne Margete Hausken, in the final sprint, thereby winning both an ice-cream bet and a World Cup title.
- I made a bet with Pasi. If I won I’d get an ice-cream. If I didn’t win I’d have to buy him a beer, laughs Kauppi.
In spite of the fact that Kauppi beat Saturday’s next best time by three minutes she says that she took it easy at the start. Not until the 16th control did she catch up with a group of Swedish runners.
Elisabeth Ingvaldsen and Pål Skogedal gave Nydalen double victory in Saturday’s Craft Cup chasing start, with winning times of 1:32:44 and 2:01:00 respectively.
